Who

The MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) brings together researchers from multiple disciplines inside and outside computer science to study everything from information security to human-robot interaction.

Why

CSAIL’s website was out of date and did little to promote the lab’s exciting, boundary-breaking work. It used a flat information structure that made it difficult for external visitors to find out more about current and past lab projects, and internal users to learn about and connect with each other.

Wow

Nimble Partners interviewed and conducted card sort sessions with faculty, staff and graduate students to determine information priority and organization, common situations of use, and identify roadblocks on the current site. We pared down navigation categories and recommended features for the lab to better promote its research and help the CSAIL community connect with each other. During the project, we collaborated with Stoltze Design and Indigo Digital, seeing the strategy work through the design and development phases.
